Description

F.A.S.T. kit, or First Arriving Survival Treatment is our signature severe trauma kit. This kit is intended as a personal trauma kit and includes the following items for treatment of life or limb threatening injuries:

Formable splint. This latex splint is a latex foam/aluminum combination that allows the user to reliably form the splint to the affected extremity that may have some form of deformity noted. The moldable splint allows the rescuer to provide comfort and stability when the injured person needs to be transported to help.

Upper extremity Arm/Shoulder immobilizer. This is also known as a sling. We provide your kit with a simple but effective sling to place on the person who is injured to help immobilize and provide extra security to an injured upper extremity. We know that the good old fashioned “boy scout” triangle bandage has gotten the best of many EMTs nation-wide. We don’t even offer it in this kit.

Wound gauzes are included in this package in various forms. Everything from the simple 4X4 to the ABD pads for bigger bleeding all the way up to a section of “QUICK CLOT” wound packing gauze is in your F.A.S.T. kit.

Still bleeding? We include a genuine North American Rescue CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet) generation 7 in high visibility Orange. This is the leading tourniquet on the market. Not because it is the only successful one, but because it was developed by the Army Institute of Surgical Research and has the highest amount of familiarity over all other tourniquets in the U.S. We know that the worst time to figure something out is when you need it most and we chose this as the primary tourniquet in our gear.

No one can work in the dark. Because we know this we include 2 forms of lighting. A crank powered/solar charged flashlight because we already know you didn’t check your batteries… and a chemical light. Our chem light is blue in color for the easiest pickup of non-natural light in any environment. Other colors can be mistaken by the human eye in certain conditions so we opted for a bright blue color. These are generally considered a 4 hour light but every one we test out of our custom batches seem to last 12-16 hours before being unusable. We don’t guarantee that, but it is our experience. Our chem lights also come on a hand threaded 5-6 foot section of paracord 550. This is useful for a multitude of situations, and stores well with the chem light.

Full size trauma shears. No trauma treatment is worth anything if you aren’t able to expose the injury. The number one thing we teach in our course work is that you must visualize the injury and that always starts with getting the injury “naked” don’t get caught on camera with your “sporting knife” as you saw you way through clothing. It looks terrible.

Chest seals are included in your kit because any hole from neck to navel on the torso should absolutely be sealed. Long gone are the days of the old petroleum impregnated gauze trash bandages. We know you’d get a real weird look as your patient made their way up to surgery with anything less than a ventilated chest seal. Afterall, we are trying to save lives, not contribute to endangering them. A lot of time went into the research, and we feel the Hyfin full size ventilated chest seal offers the best value for service on the market.

Survival foil blankets are simple and effective ways to help mitigate heat loss during shock. Hypothermia is one of the lethal components to the shock triad. Don’t help your patient die while watching them shiver. Its true, these aren’t your grandma’s comforter but they do offer you a huge benefit without the weight and bulk penalty.

Cleansing wipes. No one worth their weight in salt delivers anyone to a rescuer or a hospital full of coagulated blood or completely obscured injuries. As humans we know that when you see blood everywhere you are distracted by the red stuff on the wrong side of the body parts. Clean the injury enough that it is easily identified. As a bonus, if you need to clean yourself up, these work great after the fact. They are hypoallergenic, non-scented and gentle on skin. Several are in your pack.

CPR respiratory shield. If you must go mouth to mouth, the only civilized way to do this is with a shield. Don’t ever put your mouth on a stranger’s mouth and assume any risk, no matter how small it can be. These masks help prevent cross contamination by blood born pathogens in the case of mouth to mouth breathing.

Tape. Every kit comes with a roll of medical tape. Truth be told, the only thing that medical tape sticks to is medical gloves and itself but we included it in case you needed it and well, because OSHA says its mandatory in first aid.

Gloves. We hand pack a pair of gloves in a sealed bag to increase longevity. One of the biggest things we have come to hate is the “one size fits all” approach to safety equipment. We pack you one pair of small, medium, large and extra large gloves because we know if you don’t fit in them, what is the use? But more importantly, if they are too big, you will lose dexterity and sensation. Wear the gloves that fit you. We will pack more, we promise!

And even though we provide face to face or online training with a back up mobile app, your kits have a FIRST AID handbook for emergency reading. We know, it’s an absolute riveting page turner.
