Description
BU. BU.S. or BURNS. BUMPS. and SCRAPES is our flagship first aid it. It covers just about everything you can need that isn’t a direct life threat, and even some things that are life threatening. It meets the OSHA Level 3 type B first aid kit standards.
What’s in the bag? Honestly it is loaded. As professional responders we are kind of self-proclaimed hoarders. We stuffed this bag with XX items and every one of them has a use in the field.
We start out with a large bag of skin clean and prep. This has everything you want from Alcohol preps to BZK preps (less sting on affected skin) to care giver cleansing and disinfecting wipes. It also has white petrolatum (Vaseline type) and triple anti-biotic ointment. We include a couple of burn pads for treatment of mild to moderate burns. Cleanliness is one of the most important aspects of good treatment.
Next up is our bandages. We cover you with more than 30 different bandages including fingertip, small and large fabric bandages. We love fabric bandages for better stick and more flexibility. We finish our bandages up with 2 packs of fabric sutures. There are plenty of gimmicks for closing wounds up but our experience tells us the less profile your closures have the less likely you are to snag them, and outright suturing is a complicated task that is best left to the professionals. Some injuries are easily closed with good clean care and a handful of fabric sutures and will scar the same as a suture if not less.
Tools are provided in our kits. No we don’t have a socket set but we do offer you small trauma shears, medical shears for skin and set of tweezers for assistance in removing small objects and even a scalpel. We didn’t include the scalpel for you to do surgery but every so often you need a good clean razor-sharp blade to take care of an injury that is impossible to deal with without cutting.
Cough and Cold meds are included. We give you 24 doses of different cough and cold medications that are wrapped in individual dose packages. Why carry a bunch of bottles for emergency dosing of medications? If you need more, you need to be at home or in a hospital. Our cough and cold medications are: diphenhydramine (Benadryl type medication) for any allergic reaction. This isn’t a rescue medication for anaphylaxis but even so, it is our second medication for it in a 911 response. Some people are really
not all that keen to the regular use of diphenhydramine because of the potential for drowsiness. We included citiramed (Citirizine type medication) for regular allergies that has less potential for drowsiness. Some people are very sensitive to either medication so we offer both for the scrutinizing user. Meclizine is up next for those who suffer motion sickness or upset stomach. If you suffer from vertigo, motion
sickness or just routine upset stomach you are probably familiar with this medication. Finally we have a phenylephrine. Phenylephrine is a medication that a lot of people use to help sinus congestion from respiratory sickness or allergies. It can be a medication that just pushes you over the edge to comfort when you feel sick.
Pain medications round out our individual packs. Another 24 doses of individual dose packages We offer the following medications for pain management. Ibuprofen (Advil type medication). A tried and true medication for mild to moderate pain management. Most people are familiar with ibuprofen and tolerate it well. For some this medication is contraindicated meaning that it isn’t agreeable with their specific issues so we also offer acetaminophen (Tylenol type medication) which can be used to treat various levels of pain. It too can be contraindicated for certain people so knowing what type of patient
you are is essential. Next up is a ant-acid for those upset stomach/indigestion cases. Nothing can be more uncomfortable than indigestion that you want to stop. Finally we round out with an electrolyte tablet. A lot of cramping and headaches can also be remedied with simple salts in the correct balances. We don’t need to make it complicated or gimmicky. No sports drinks or magic elixirs, just a tablet to go down with water or whatever you are drinking that tastes good. IVs are for people who can’t drink,
nothing else.
Gauze of various types. We know that wound care is our primary focus on any kit we sell. It is the primary component of first aid. Everything from simple 4x4s, ABD pads, small gauze and large gauze is included. You never know what you need to bandage but we aimed to help you with an assortment of things to make you successful.
Survival foil blankets are simple and effective ways to help mitigate heat loss during shock. Hypothermia is one of the lethal components to the shock triad. Don’t help your patient die while watching them shiver. Its true, these aren’t your grandma’s comforter but they do offer you a huge benefit without the weight and bulk penalty.
CPR respiratory shield. If you must go mouth to mouth, the only civilized way to do this is with a shield. Don’t ever put your mouth on a stranger’s mouth and assume any risk, no matter how small it can be. These masks help prevent cross contamination by blood born pathogens in the case of mouth to mouth breathing.
Tape. Every kit comes with a roll of medical tape. Truth be told, the only thing that medical tape sticks to is medical gloves and itself but we included it in case you needed it and well, because OSHA says its mandatory in first aid.
A triangle bandage. Yes, Our F.A.S.T. kit omits this item, for a reason. But if you have the time to use one, it sure does come in hand in a pinch. Being good with a triangle bandage is a skill but having the skill is AWESOME! These come in hand when you can use it and we recommend you make sure your skills are up to date.
Cleansing wipes. No one worth their weight in salt delivers anyone to a rescuer or a hospital full of coagulated blood or completely obscured injuries. As humans we know that when you see blood everywhere you are distracted by the red stuff on the wrong side of the body parts. Clean the injury enough that it is easily identified. As a bonus, if you need to clean yourself up, these work great after the fact. They are hypoallergenic, non-scented and gentle on skin. Several are in your pack.
Cool pack. These come in clutch when you feel discomfort and don’t have access to an ice pack. We know they aren’t going to make all of your problems disappear, but they sure can make you feel comfortable, from everything to localized pain to a headache and they last a few minutes while your pain meds kick in.
Gloves. We hand pack a pair of gloves in a sealed bag to increase longevity. One of the biggest things we have come to hate is the “one size fits all” approach to safety equipment. We pack you one pair of small, medium, large and extra large gloves because we know if you don’t fit in them, what is the use? But mor importantly, if they are too big, you will lose dexterity and sensation. Wear the gloves that fit you. We will pack more, we promise!
Baby Aspirin. We hate the term baby aspirin because you should never give babies aspirin. The correct term is chewable aspirin. Any pain from neck to navel that you cant rule out as something non cardiac related should be treated with chewable aspirin. The only medication that is clinically proven to have a benefit in cardiovascular issues is aspirin. It is so powerful that we include an entire bottle of it. It also happens to be great at treating pain outside of cardiac pain.
Vomex emesis basin. This thing is gold! It stows nicely, has a convenient neck band for when you need to vomit and as an aside, it makes for a great washing/irrigation basin for wound management. We couldn’t recommend a better basin so it is in every BU. BU.S. kit we make.
Eye wash. We include buffered eye wash. If you need to rinse copious amounts of water through the eye for a rinse, finish with this to help adjust for the irritation of tap water. If you don’t need a massive flushing, use this as the primary rinse to get rid of debris and make the affected eye clean.
Burn spray. We include a small bottle of lidocaine based burn spray. Truth be told it has many uses. We wouldn’t treat most injuries without it.
Baby Shampoo. No we aren’t telling you to wash your infant in the vomex basin. Baby shampoo is “tearless” and recommended for babies because it is closer to a neutral ph than most every other soap or shampoo. We don’t want to further irritate injured skin so we recommend that you make your washing solution or irrigation solution with baby shampoo to keep the pain and secondary damage to a minimum.
We also include a 60cc syringe with a large bore steel catheter for flushing and irrigation of wounds. Think miniature power washer. You’ll never go back to the barbaric old way of cleaning injuries again.
Last but not least we offer a full bottle of hand sanitizer. Sometimes you just don’t have access to lots of clean water. If you cant wash your hands, alcohol based hand sanitizer is acceptable in the health care industry. Just remember to use your gloves.

And even though we provide face to face or online training with a back up mobile app, your kits have a FIRST AID handbook for emergency reading. We know, it’s
an absolute riveting page turner.
